Tips for Conducting Effective Research

For those intimated by the writing a research paper and don't know where to start here are some tips to get started:

1. Define your research topic: You should start by defining and identifying what your research question or topic is. The better you define it the easier it will become later on, and allow you to stay on track with the research.

2. Utilize credible sources: All good research papers have good and solid reputable sources, not just one but multiple to back-up their point. Reputable sources can be in forms of academic journals, books, trusted websites, even other research papers. When doing research avoid solely relying on information that comes from social media and random forums.

3. Be Organized: A good way to stay on track is to first make a draft with bullet points and key topics you would like to talk about. Also keep track of your sources and take notes on them to make it easier to refer to them later on and so you ensure you give credit to the sources used.

4. Take breaks: Research and trying to find all kinds of information can be really time consuming and draining, so you should take regular breaks to let yourself breathe and let the brain rest a little before you start up again. This will prevent burnout and allow you to have a better focus.

5. Stay curious: When doing a research paper, you should always keep an open mind and look into different perspectives of what your topic has to offer, even if it may go against what you are trying to argue. It allows for a better perspective and will enhance your understanding of the topic.
